KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Calling them a danger to the community and a flight risk, Judge Richard Santoni has ordered that two former Western Michigan University football players charged with multiple felonies be held on $100,000 bond in the Kalamazoo County Jail.
Ronald George and Bryson White have been formally charged with first degree home invasion, armed robbery and larceny.
Apparently, WMU does not do criminal background checks on their football recruits or they would have learned that White is due to stand trial late in September for driving on a suspended license and under the intoxication of marijuana.
A passenger was arrested for carrying a gun and they also found a mask and gloves in the car.
Head coach P.J. Fleck took full responsibility for allowing the two onto the team because he says handing out scholarships is his job. He said there is zero tolerance for such behavior and, as soon as they had facts to work with, they first suspended and then dismissed the players from the team.
Fleck said he has to do a better job of determining what is truly in the hearts of his recruits and how they are going to behave once they get to Kalamazoo and away from their family.
