KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Another gun has been taken off the streets of Kalamazoo by public safety officers — this time, out of the hands of a man who was allegedly ready to use it when they intervened.
Officers on foot patrol approached a large crowd gathered in the 1300 block of North Burdick Street at about 3 a.m. Saturday. They spotted the man pulling out the gun and pointing it at someone. A woman at the scene screamed for the suspect to not pull the trigger.
It was at this point that the suspect spotted the officers and fled. He was captured after a brief foot chase. Police confiscated a loaded semi-automatic handgun, which they later learned had been stolen from Nevada.
The 24-year-old suspect was booked at the Kalamazoo County Jail for carrying a concealed weapon, being in possession of a stolen gun, being a felon in possession of a gun and for resisting and obstructing.
