KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — City representatives say all of Bronson Park in Kalamazoo will benefit from “The Fountain of the Pioneers” being named to the National Register of Historic Places.
Historic Preservation Coordinator Sharon Ferraro said a fundraising campaign for the park will be announced this fall.
“We’re going to be adding a better sound system and Wi-Fi, we’re going to be fixing the fountain obviously, and we’re probably going to have a splash pad and a small ice rink for kids,” Ferraro said.
The fountain’s designation should help achieve the $2.8 million goal.
“It’s going to make the entire project more eligible for various grants that we could get,” Ferraro said.
The Alfonso Iannelli work, which was installed in 1940, was listed on the register last week. It needs significant restoration work.
