KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — The picture of Kalamazoo Public Safety Officer Timothy Millard using a hand gesture that looks like a gun on North Douglas Avenue created a stir at this week’s Kalamazoo City Commission meeting, prompting plenty of public comment.
Some defended the officer, saying the media had blown the issue out of proportion. Others said that Millard has a reputation on the north side and this isn’t the first time he had attempted to intimidate black males.
Others said he should have known better than to use that particular gesture at this time in the nation’s history.
Mayor Bobby Hopewell said the community and public safety was on the right track until this happened, and its important that they talk through it and keep moving forward. Kalamazoo Public Safety has reportedly launched an internal investigation.
