KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — The Western Michigan Broncos are the overwhelming media favorite to win the Mid-American Conference football championship.
Nineteen of 26 voters had WMU on top in the poll released Thursday.
Head Coach P.J. Fleck says he’s hoping his team responds well to the higher expectations.
“We’ve been planning on expectations since our 1-11 season,” Fleck said. “We’ve been teaching our players about pressure. Pressure is earned, and not a lot of people have a chance to have pressure. We finally have it.”
Western won its first bowl game last season, downing Middle Tennessee State 45-31 in the Bahamas Bowl.
The Broncos begin their season in Chicago on Sept. 3 against Northwestern.
