KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — The Kalamazoo City Commission plans to hold a second workshop on generating new tax revenues Thursday night.
Commissioners are looking for ways to keep the city from dipping into multi-million dollar deficits each year. At a meeting held earlier this spring, they asked the city manager to look at options and to prepare reports, including a range of ways they could introduce an income tax.
By setting the rates at various levels, they may actually be able to increase revenue and reduce the total tax burden on most homeowners and businesses.
One of the other items staff was tasked to look at was selling the parking system to a private operator.
No final decisions will be made, but a discussion will be held at the Metro Transit offices on North Rose Street at 6 p.m.
