KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Kalamazoo Public Safety is trying to identify the owner of a dog who attacked a cyclist in the Edison Neighborhood late Wednesday morning.
Arriving officers found a 60-year-old man trying to fend off the large dog, which was biting his arm. Both of his arms were covered in blood.
The officer was forced to shoot and kill the dog to stop the attack. The victim was rushed to Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo for treatment of several severe injuries.
The victim told police that he had been riding a bike in the 700 block of Egleston Avenue just after 11 a.m. near Stockbridge Avenue when the dog attacked him.
Witnesses say the attack went on for five minutes before the officer put the dog down.
The name of the victim and his current condition have not been released.
