UNDATED (WKZO-AM) — Overnight rain and storms left about 2,000 homes in Kalamazoo County and several hundred in Allegan and Barry counties without power Sunday morning.
Consumers Energy is expected to have power restored by mid-morning in most cases and should complete repairs sometime today.
Trees were toppled and branches broken. One tree fell across M-96 between Kalamazoo and Galesburg, blocking traffic until crews could remove the obstruction.
The utility reported downed power lines. They’re urging people to stay away from them, because they could be live and dangerous.
The rain fronts overnight and Sunday morning also brought with them much-needed rain to parched lawns and fields. It also brought in a wave of cooler temperatures to break the steam bath-like conditions that have dominated the past couple of days.
Doctors say high temperatures can cause health problems, but its the persistent heat during the days and nights that causes real outbreaks of heat exhaustion and stroke. That hasn’t been the case here in Michigan, thanks in part to the overnight rains.
