KALAMAZOO TOWNSHIP (WKZO-AM) — A 15-year-old arrested following the shooting of his 17-year-old female cousin has been charged, but attempted homicide is not one of the counts listed in the warrants.
Investigators are now saying the shooting was unintentional. There are criminal charges because police claim the gun he was handling was stolen from his grandfather.
A hearing is scheduled Friday to learn if the prosecutor’s office plans to prosecute the teen as an adult. The juvenile is charged with receiving and concealing a stolen firearm, larceny of a gun and careless use of a gun resulting in injury.
He was ordered to remain at the Kalamazoo County Juvenile Home on $30,000 bond.
The shooting occurred at the Country Meadow Apartments in Kalamazoo Township early Tuesday.
The victim is said to be improving but remains in critical condition.
