BENTON HARBOR (WKZO-AM) — Fifteen-hundred mourners, including many police officers and first responders from all over the Midwest, turned out to say goodbye to slain Berrien County Courthouse Security Chief Joseph Zangaro during a service at the Mendel Center in Benton Harbor.
Blue ribbons were seen all over the property.
Zangaro was shot and killed Monday by a Berrien County Jail inmate who was trying to escape.
A 21-gun salute was fired in Zangaro’s honor and a bugler played taps as he was laid to rest.
Also killed was jail security officer Ronald Kienzle. Kienzle’s service will also be at the Mendel Center on Monday at 1 p.m.
