KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — The Michigan Department of Transportation is warning motorists to be aware of closures this weekend at the interchange connecting U.S. 131 and Interstate 94 in Portage.
Closures this weekend will affect all ramps except southbound U.S. 131 onto I-94.
“It was actually supposed to be done a weekend or two ago,” MDOT spokesperson Nick Schirripa said, noting that weather kept the project from happening.
“Where those ramps connect, we’ll be re-paving,” Schirripa said. “There would be no way for people to get on or off of U.S. 131 without going through a work zone.”It’s part of a broader reconstruction project on U.S. 131 between I-94 and U Avenue.
“That re-paving is going to go about another month,” Schirripa said.
The project has reduced U.S. 131 to one lane in the area.
