SAGINAW (WKZO-AM) — Michigan State Health Department officials say there is something else to worry about over the weekend besides setting your backyard on fire.
The west Nile virus has just been detected in a mosquito pool in Saginaw County from samples taken in mid-June. That’s the earliest in-state detection of the virus in years.
Spokesperson Angela Minicuci advises that you use an insect repellant if you go outside this holiday weekend and make sure the screens in your home don’t have any holes.
Last year, West Nile was blamed for two deaths in Michigan, and an untold number of illnesses.
