PAW PAW (WKZO-AM) — Michigan State Police say they’ll be focusing on keeping the state’s roadways free of dangerous and impaired drivers over the Independence Day weekend.
The effort is being called “Operation CARE,” which stands for combined accident reduction effort.
“Our goal will be to reduce traffic fatalities and injuries during this peak-travel weekend,” Lt. Dale Hinz, who is with the Michigan State Police post in Paw Paw, said on Thursday.
“You’ll see a lot more Michigan State Police troopers out on the roadways, especially on the freeways and the peak-travel roadways,” Hinz said.
He also said, with great weather on tap through the weekend, those troopers are anticipating a busy weekend.
“In the past, we’ve been inundated with drunk driving, speeding and aggressive driving calls,” Hinz said.
The extra patrols will remain out through Monday.
