DECATUR (WKZO-AM) — A suspected drunk driver is in custody after he lost control and slammed into the front of the Quick Stop convenience store on Sherwood Street in Decatur just after 2 a.m. Wednesday.
An off-duty sheriff’s deputy was first at the scene and notified dispatch that the driver’s pickup had done extensive damage to the store. Officers arrived and took the driver, a 34-year-old Bloomingdale man, into custody.
Subsequent investigation determined he had a blood-alcohol count that was well over three times the legal limit.
They also discovered that he had been arrested twice before for driving under the influence and will face far stiffer penalties and fines this time around.
The suspect was booked into the Van Buren County Jail.
