KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Rep. Dave Maturen, R-Vicksburg, says he’s pleased with the $16 billion education budget signed by Gov. Rick Snyder.
All districts will be getting a per-pupil funding bump for the upcoming school year, but Maturen says his district will see a bit more.
“Instead of getting $60, every school district in the 63rd District got the $120 increase,” Maturen said. “I certainly though that was worthwhile.”
Maturen’s district covers portions of Kalamazoo and Calhoun counties.
The budget also includes money for more nurses and universal preschool in Flint and a 2.9 percent increase for public university funding.
It also includes $2.5 million for private schools, which could face a challenge in court.
