CHESHIRE TOWNSHIP (WKZO-AM) — Hundreds of families in southern Allegan County have a critter to blame for a sprawling power outage.
About 660 Consumers Energy customers in a large rural area between Pullman and Allegan lost power at around 12:15 p.m. Sunday. They could get service back at some point early Monday.
An animal got inside the fence at the Cheshire Township substation, shorting two lines and causing so much damage that they have had to bring in a mobile substation to restore temporary service until permanent repairs can be made.
They hope to have service restored by 7:00 a.m.
It’s not mentioned in the news release, but the animal usually doesn’t survive the encounter.
UPDATE – 6/27 at 7 a.m.: The outage looks to be repaired.
