LANSING (WKZO-AM) — Gov. Rick Snyder has signed into law new foster care reforms authored by Sen. Rick Jones, R-Grand Ledge.
The law compels the state to make every effort to keep siblings in the foster care system together.
“But if it’s not possible, it mandates the siblings will have frequent visitation,” Jones said.
Jones says first-hand experience compelled him to write the bill.
“I have found personally, because my family has taken in some 25 foster children, that if you keep siblings together, it really helps them stay on the right track in school and succeed in life,” Jones said.
The mandate takes effect immediately.
