VICKSBURG (WKZO-AM) — Sunday will be the 33rd anniversary of the unsolved death of Eric Cross of Vicksburg, and a person of interest in that case may spend it in the Kalamazoo County Jail.
Brenton Spaulding, 50, is being held without bond for domestic abuse. He was arrested Monday.
You may have seen pictures of Eric Cross taped and nailed to telephone poles around Kalamazoo, as the cold case investigation into his death has heated up over the past year. Undersheriff Pauli Matyas said they have five people of interest in the case, including four who he claims either participated in the crime or are covering it up.
The body of the 16-year-old was found in the street near the home of his parents in June 1983, the victim of an apparent hit-and-run accident. Subsequent evidence and an autopsy revealed that it may have been a deliberate murder made to look like an accident.
The prosecutor’s office has the police investigation, but has not yet filed charges.
