KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Rep. Jon Hoadley, D-Kalamazoo, says he’d like to see the House consider legislation this fall to make voting easier in Michigan.
Hoadley says Republicans impaired voting ease and access by passing a straight-ticket voting ban last year.
“People are going to be talking about the election and Michigan has this real dubious distinction of not modernizing voting procedures for over 20 years,” Hoadley said. “So, all we’ve done is taken away some of the options at the ballot.”
When Gov. Rick Snyder signed the bill in January, he also recommended legislators consider another bill to allow no-reason absentee voting. That option was tie-barred to the original package that included the straight-ticket ban, but was removed before reaching Snyder’s desk.
