KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Safety concerns at the Kalamazoo-Battle Creek International Airport have prompted the Federal Aviation Administration to grant $300,000 to study ways to keep people, vehicles and other movable objects out of the way of planes that are landing and taking off at the facility’s various runways.
The grants are being handed out to airports that have a history with the problem.
Officials at the airport said they hope to reduce the risk with improved layouts, better lights and signs and other ways of letting staff and others know where it’s safe to be and where it’s not, and when.
It’s called the Runway Mitigation Incursion Program, and airports all over the nation are getting the grants.
