GENEVA TOWNSHIP (WKZO-AM) — A Van Buren County man who allegedly exchanged gunfire with police several times on Tuesday has been charged with 15 felony counts.
Investigators with Michigan State Police say it began Tuesday morning when a detective stopped at his home to ask 41-year-old Jason Kohlhoff about alleged threats directed at a local judge. Lt. Angel Ouwinga said that’s when Kohlhoff produced a gun and fired a shot into the ground, then fled back inside.
The standoff ended early Wednesday after the man surrendered with Kohlhoff requested to talk to a sheriff’s deputy he knew. That deputy talked him into giving himself up.
A glimpse of the home after the stand-off revealed that the entire front wall of the single story structure was ripped out.
Investigators also found over a dozen guns inside.
Kohlhoff has been charged with six counts of attempted murder and multiple gun felonies. He’s being held on $3 million bond.
