KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — The president of the Southwest Michigan Tea Party Patriots says he’s hesitant about throwing his support behind presidential hopeful Donald Trump.
Gene Clem said several Tea Party members remain skeptical about the likely Republican nominee.
“I’ve been spending the last month talking people off the ledge,” Clem said.
He believes the bombastic real estate tycoon lacks morality and an understanding of how government functions.
“How does the government work?” Clem said. “I don’t think Trump knows how it works correctly.”
So, he’s taking a “wait-and-see” approach until he’s proven otherwise.
“Is Trump going to turn out to be a good candidate?” Clem said. “He has to win my vote. It’s still open.”
Clem supported Ted Cruz before the Texas senator suspended his presidential campaign.
