EMMETT TOWNSHIP (WKZO-AM) — A Calhoun County Sheriff’s deputy and his wife have been found shot to death in their own back yard by their son, as their two children were holding a sleepover for friends inside.
Emmett Township Police Chief Mike Olson said the 911 call from the boy was made at about 8 a.m. Sunday from his home on McAlister Street. Neighbors told investigators they heard popping noises at about 1 a.m. but just thought it was fireworks.
A semi-automatic handgun was later found with the bodies.
No names have been released.
The deputy is said to have been an 18-year veteran of the department.
Investigators aren’t saying at this point whether it was homicide, self-inflicted or accidental. They do say however that there is no danger to others in the area.
