KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — This is one of the busiest weekends of the year in downtown Kalamazoo as tens of thousands drive in to take in the art in Bronson Park or enjoy a Gyros and the music at the Greek Festival.
A lot of permanent businesses also benefit from the extra traffic during the June Jubilee.
It’s one last dance for Greekfest, a 40-year tradition in Kalamazoo that won’t be back in its current form next year. The Skartsiaris Family has decided to downsize the event and take it indoors next year.
The Kalamazoo Institute of Art’s Bronson Park Art Show is in its 65th year in Kalamazoo and it typically attracts tens of thousands downtown before they pack away the art and fold up the tents for another year, or at least until they get to the next art show.
Everything from paintings of Michigan Dunes to life-sized robot sculptures were available at this year’s show.
The downtown events aren’t the only ones in Kalamazoo County this weekend.
There is the Pickleball Tournament that will be crowning a champion Sunday at the Wings Event Center.
The first Summer Concert in the Park will be held Sunday evening at the Rotary Bandshell in Bronson Park. The Kalamazoo Singers will be taking the stage for a performance at 4 p.m.
