GULL LAKE (WKZO-AM) — The body of 39-year-old Danyelle Phillips Sr. of Kalamazoo was first detected by a sonar unit brought to the lake by State Police
The search had been moved to a location in the lake closer to the spot where family members remembered the drowning incident had occured.
Divers went in and recovered the body in an area of the lake that was about 26 feet deep.
Phillips disappeared Saturday afternoon after jumping in the water to rescue his son.
The teen had jumped into the lake for a swim and began to struggle. At 1:45 p.m. Kalamazoo County Sheriffs got the call that the boy had been rescued, but that his father had disappeared.
The County deployed the Marine Division watercraft and dive teams and a State Police Helicopter also joined the search for a while Saturday. They searched until dusk and then suspended the search overnight. They resumed the search Sunday morning and continued until the search ended with the recovery of the body at about 7:30 Sunday evening.
