KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Flying somewhere on vacation this summer? TSA Administrator Peter Neffenger told the Homeland Security Committee in Congress this week that long lines at major airports will be a problem for the next few months until they can train new staff.
Three-hour waits are reported at O’Hare International Airport in Chicago, causing some passengers to miss their flights.
The director of the Kalamazoo-Battle Creek International Airport has a solution: Fly out of Kalamazoo, where you don’t have to wait to go through security. Dave Reid says the average wait in their TSA line is five minutes. He said, once you go through security, you can avoid the lines at a major hub as long as you don’t stray out of the secured area at the major airport terminal.
He said, since the return of United Airlines to the airport, fares are more competitive.
