PORTAGE (WKZO-AM) — The budget for the city of Portage for next year was unanimously approved on Tuesday.
It restores funding for firefighter and public safety positions that were eliminated during the Great Recession. It also includes more money for roads.
Manager Lawrence Shaffer said they are doing it without raising tax rates.
They will spend about $68 million next year, a 1.3 percent increase over last year.
New commercial and residential developments and rising property valuations provided the extra income for the city.
