LANSING (WKZO-AM) — Rep. Jon Hoadley says he was disappointed his name was taken off a package of bills linked to Michigan’s proposed active shooter alert system.
Hoadley, D-Kalamazoo, was a sponsor of a bill that would have outlined penalties for false reports, but he claims things changed once the bill package reached the Senate Judiciary Committee.
“I guess to make some sort of political point, the chairman of the committee decided to copy and paste word-for-word my bill, give it to a Republican senator and move it through,” Hoadley said.
Hoadley also wasn’t surprised by that.
“I know Democrats have done this stuff in the past,” Hoadley said. “It’s just so disappointing, because this was such a great opportunity where all of our community was working together.”
The Senate bill now carries the name of Mike Nofs, R-Battle Creek.
Hoadley said he’ll likely vote for the amended package once it reaches the House again.
