KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Six Kalamazoo residents will be looking for a new place to live after they were burned out of their apartment house in the 1800 block of South Burdick Street on Saturday.
Kalamazoo Public Safety got the dispatch call at about 6:38 p.m. after a tenant on the second floor of the home woke up to fire in his unit and managed to escape, but not before suffering burns and smoke inhalation. The 46-year-old was taken to Bronson Methodist Hospital for treatment.
Fire crews were able to control the flames about 40 minutes after arriving on scene, but it took a little longer to put out hot spots.
The six displaced residents are being provided with temporary shelter and assistance by the Red Cross.
The fire marshal is still investigating the cause.
