LANSING (WKZO-AM) — Rep. Al Pscholka wants to end an $80 million tax break for Michigan-based car insurance companies.
Pscholka, R-Stevensville, claims the legislature inadvertently created the credits when they passed changes to the Michigan Assigned Claims Plan in 2012.
“Forever we will pay this,” Pscholka said. “This would be billions of dollars with driver receiving nothing — it’s absolute lunacy.”
He’s trying to push bills onto the House floor next week to eliminate the breaks.
“As Republicans, if we believe in no corporate hand-outs and not picking winners and losers, we need to resolve this,” Pscholka said.
Pscholka says it would be one way to fix a two-year, $460 million budget shortfall.
