KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — The mayor of Portage is expecting his city to be significantly safer this spring and summer.
Pete Strazdas said the $68 million budget up for approval next Tuesday sets aside money for public safety positions lost during the 2008 recession.
“We’ll have three additional police officers, three additional fire professionals and implement a fire service,” Strazdas said Tuesday on WKZO-AM’s Kalamazoo’s Morning News.
He also said a body camera rollout is underway.
“Hopefully, we’ll see that deployed to all Portage Public Safety officers,” Strazdas said.
Strazdas also said officers have begun testing a new electric quiet motorcycles on bike paths.
