KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — The youngest students in Kalamazoo Public Schools will be thumbing through new course materials.
About 530 pre-kindergarten students in 13 schools will crack reading, writing and arithmetic books from Highscope and Creative Curriculum this fall after sample lessons were well-received earlier this year.
Supt. Michael Rice says the materials will supplement the district’s growing early education programs well.
“These are developmentally-appropriate materials,” Rice said. “They’re focused not simply on academic growth, but also social, emotional, physical, cognitive and intellectual growth — it’s all the developmental growth that you want.”
Board members approved the $116,000 purchase last week.
