BATTLE CREEK (WKZO-AM) — Battle Creek Police have released the identity of a man in a wheelchair who was struck by a hit and run driver, and may now have that driver in custody.
60-year-old James Pettigrew was piloting an electric wheelchair in a bike lane on East Goodale just after midnight, very early Saturday morning when he was struck by a westbound vehicle.
The driver of the vehicle did not stop, dragging pieces of the wheelchair for another block before stopping to dislodge the crumpled metal.
The suspect vehicle was found later in the 100-block of Goodale and a man taken into custody on an unrelated charge, but is reportedly a person of interest in the crash.
Pettigrew was rushed to Bronson Methodist in Kalamazoo where he remained in critical condition at last word.
