KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — A Kalamazoo man who police claim was exploiting female drug addicts, forcing them to work off drug debts by becoming prostitutes, has now been arrested and charged in district court.
The Kalamazoo Valley Enforcement Team said at least four women were identified as being victims. On Wednesday, 32-year-old Joseph Lee of Kalamazoo was waiting for one of the women outside the Hampton Inn in Oshtemo when he was arrested.
He is being held on $75,000 for three counts including human trafficking and prostitution. After his arrest, investigators found evidence of long-term human trafficking and located other victims.
Lee is now in jail.
The four victims were given contact information for programs that help people recover from drug addiction and the after-effects of human trafficking.
