PORTAGE (WKZO-AM) — A suspect is in custody for a stabbing that nearly killed a Portage woman last Thursday in her own home on Cora Drive.
Victoria Enos, 43, was admitted to Bronson Methodist Hospital in critical condition after being stabbed multiple times.
A 19-year-old Portage resident has been arrested and is being held for the stabbing at the Kalamazoo County Jail pending formal charges, which could come Wednesday.
His name and all the details surrounding his involvement in crime are being withheld by detectives. It was apparently someone that family members knew.
Enos has since been discharged from the hospital. She was attacked just before 2 a.m. on May 5 and, despite her wounds, managed to dial 911 and summon help.
Her attacker fled out the back door. Enos’ three children and her elderly mother-in-law slept elsewhere in the home.
Forensic crews spent two days gathering evidence at the home.
It clears her estranged husband, who had been required to stay away from the home they once shared because of a personal protection order obtained by the victim following allegations of domestic abuse.
He had been mentioned in news reports, but was at a treatment center in Berrien County at the time.
