KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Four families have been displaced by a fire that badly damaged a building on Portage Road at Bryant Street in Kalamazoo on Monday night.
The old commercial structure had been converted into apartments, and one tenant reported the blaze began when a pan of grease on a stove caught fire in a second-story apartment in the back of the building and quickly spread to the rest of the kitchen.
The second story was where the most damage was done.
Everyone inside the structure managed to escape without injury. The Red Cross is providing temporary shelter for the displaced tenants.
