PAW PAW (WKZO-AM) — Memorial Day is at the end of the month, but the Van Buren County Animal Shelter did not want to wait until then to begin offering free pets to military veterans.
Director Kasey Murphy said it’s a way to thank those who serve, past and present. The animals are free and come fully vaccinated, checked for heart worms, neutered and ready to go.
Murphy is calling it “Corps Companions.”
Any active or retired member of the military and their immediate families qualify if they are in need of comfort.
