LANSING (WKZO-AM) — West Michigan Rep. Aric Nesbitt is calling on the attorney general to investigate the Detroit Teachers Union for organizing “sick-outs.”
He claims the “sick-outs” are just strikes by another name and claims they violates Michigan’s ban on teacher strikes.
Nesbitt, a Republican from Lawton, called them “blatant and repeated violations” in his letter addressed to Bill Schuette.
A judge has already ruled that “sick-outs” prior to this week were not violations because they were not organized by the union, and teachers have a right to use their contracted sick days. However, “sick-outs” on Monday and Tuesday were declared by Ivy Bailey, the president of the union.
