PORTAGE (WKZO-AM) — Chick-fil-A appears to have set its sights on where it wants to put its new location in Portage.
The chain, which is famous for its southern-style breaded chicken sandwiches, is trying to close a deal to purchase and tear down the nearly 30-year-old Bilbo’s Pizza location near Interstate 94. The owners of the pizzeria say the building has fallen into disrepair and also claim national companies along South Westnedge Avenue have cut into their bottom line.
Chick-fil-A restaurants currently under construction in Lansing and Troy are expected to open this fall. It’s part of an aggressive expansion that could put as many as 20 restaurants in Michigan.
