KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — We should find out Friday if 45-year-old Jason Dalton is competent to stand trial for allegedly shooting eight and killing six people during a night of terror in Kalamazoo back in February.
After some incredible claims by Dalton about a demon in his Uber app directing his actions that night, it was agreed he should undergo a psychiatric exam to determine if mental illness will prevent him from aiding in his own defense and understanding the charges. If Dalton is capable of those two things, the criminal prosecution will resume.
Prosecutor Jeff Getting said he has seen the report from the Center for Forensic Psychiatry, but he is sworn to secrecy until Friday’s hearing.
He said the defense could challenge the findings and call the doctors to testify.
