KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Michigan lawmakers will be focusing hard on the budget once they get back to work next week.
Rep. Brandt Iden, R-Oshtemo, said there’s a big push to get it done by Memorial Day.
“I would envision there will be a couple of sticking points – the higher education funding piece, there are little issues as it relates to that,” Iden said. “But, for the most part, I think it’s a budget people are pretty happy with.”
Snyder wants to return higher education funding back to 2011 levels, set aside $165 million to improve state infrastructure and increase correction officer and Michigan State Police trooper counts.
The $54.9 billion proposal also includes another $195 million to combat Flint’s lead-tainted water crisis.
