KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — The staff at the utility that provides water for much of Kalamazoo County has produced a short video explaining how they get and treat their water.
It also explains why it’s unlikely that the kind of disaster that occurred in Flint will ever happen here.
Kalamazoo’s Interim Utilities Director James Baker said it explains why the hard water they get from underground aquifers is less likely to leach lead from pipes than river water, but it also explains that the water plant is using an additive that prevents the leaching.
The utility has been flooded with calls about the issue recently. They’re also offering free water testing for any customer that asks.
