BATTLE CREEK (WKZO-AM) — A Battle Creek man is dead after his home on Goguac Street caught fire on Tuesday.
The victim has been identified as 61-year-old Harlan Loomis.
The 911 call came in from a passerby who noticed smoke at about 5:22 p.m. First responders found the victim lying unresponsive in an upper hallway.
Resuscitation efforts began on Loomis after he was pulled from the structure, but were unsuccessful.
A dog survived the fire hiding under a bed.
It’s believed that the fire began on the second floor of the two-story home, but the cause is still under investigation.
They estimate the damage at $35,000.
