STURGIS (WKZO-AM) — Sturgis police say they had to shoot a pit bull that attacked a mail carrier and a police officer in the 400 block of South Jefferson Street.
The dog attacked the mail carrier at around 4 p.m. Friday, then attacked the officer’s leg after he was called to assist the animal’s handler. The officer opened fire after several failed attempts to catch the attacking dog.
The officer and mail carrier suffered minor injuries and have been released from a hospital.
The dog is dead.
