BATTLE CREEK (WKZO-AM) — Police in Battle Creek say they’re seeking a manslaughter charge against the boyfriend of a 24-year-old woman who was accidentally shot to death on Valentine’s Day.
Kayla Babick rolled on top of 25-year-old Deangelo Gaines’ legally-owned .45 caliber handgun while lying in bed, lodging a round in her abdomen.
Gaines had just finished cleaning weapon.
Investigators claim the tragedy could have been avoided if the gun were properly stored.
