BATTLE CREEK (WKZO-AM) — Battle Creek has agreed to pay a $52,000 settlement to current and former female police officers were secretly filmed in the locker room of the city’s police department.
The city, despite agreeing to the settlement, is not admitting any wrongdoing.
It was the BCPD’s heavy-handed way of solving a series of locker thefts.
Technically, it worked. They were able to identify and fire one of the female officers, Laurie Gillespie, who was seen going through the coats of her coworkers.
Gillespie, along with Jennifer Appl, Jennifer McCaughna and Shawn O’Bryant, sued in federal court. All four claimed their privacy was violated.
The settlement was approved last month and signed off by the judge this week.
