BRUSSELS (WKZO-AM) — Several sources are confirming that a Battle Creek resident and former Oakland University basketball player was injured in the Brussels terror attack on Tuesday.
Sebastian Bellin suffered an open-wound fracture to his leg that will require more than one surgery to repair. A second surgery is scheduled for a few days to remove fragments from the leg and hip.
Bellin attended Oakland University, 30 miles north of Detroit, in the late 1990s.
He married a woman from Battle Creek and lives in the southwest Michigan community. Bellin, now a businessman was reportedly at the airport on his way back to Michigan.
A Belgian professional basketball team where the Brazilian-born athlete used to play tweeted a photo of Bellin shortly after the explosions at Zaventem Airport where over a dozen people died and dozens more were injured.
He’s shown laying on the ground with a puddle of blood under his left leg.
His dad, who talked to Bellin in the hospital by phone, said he’s expected to recover from the physical wounds, but he will never forget the carnage he witnessed after the bombing.
At least one American woman is missing and three American missionaries were wounded in a pair of bombings at the airport and at a central metro station, carried out by ISIS terrorists.
