BATTLE CREEK (WKZO-AM) — A Battle Creek man who posted a video to social media declaring war on local police has been charged with threatening to commit an act of terrorism, a 20-year felony.
Prosecutors say Demetrius Austin, 22, was seen on Facebook poking a semi-automatic handgun at the screen, claiming it was payback time for the multiple shooting deaths of African-Americans by officers around the country.
Police saw the video. The next time they saw Austin in downtown Battle Creek, they took him into custody.
Austin has two previous home invasion convictions and is being held on $20,000 bond.
