LANSING (WKZO-AM) — Legislation is expected to be introduced on Thursday that would make Michigan’s governor and legislature subject to the Freedom of Information Act.
If it had been in effect prior to the Cindy Gamrat-Todd Courser affair and the Flint water crisis, it would have been easier to find fault, and perhaps the scandals would have been avoided altogether, because there would have been no place for lawmakers to hide.
Sens. Margaret O’Brien, R-Portage, and Tonya Schuitmaker, R-Lawton, have signed on. So has Rep. John Bizon, R-Battle Creek, who is the author of one of the bills.
Democrats have been calling for the change for over a year. A 10-bill package is being prepared for introduction in Lansing.
