BATTLE CREEK (WKZO-AM) — A company that makes vehicle roof rails is closing its two-year-old Battle Creek manufacturing facility, potentially putting 130 workers on the unemployment line by summer.
German-based WKW Automotive said it’s hoping those workers will apply for their old positions at the company’s facility in Portage, where it’s expanding manufacturing operations.
The company gained a $950,000 grant from the state after it promised to invest $23 million into its Battle Creek plant and hire 186 workers.
Battle Creek also pledged a 12-year, $910,000 tax abatement for the company.
